Yes, you can buy groceries here. Ocracoke Island’s only grocery store, The Variety Store, is the one-stop island shop where you’ll find produce, meats, beer and wine, and almost all of your grocery needs. It’s also the place for t-shirts, beach supplies, ice, household items, over-the-counter medicines, and gifts. Chances are, if you forgot to pack it, you can buy it. That includes everything from sunscreen and toilet paper to bait and propane tanks.

But if you’re shopping for the freshest catch, our seafood market is not to be missed. It’s a non-profit owned and operated by the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Association—the local fishermen and women, clammers, crabbers, and oyster catchers who sell their hauls here daily.
