Shopping & Arts

Don’t expect big box stores or outlet malls. Do expect to find things you won’t see anywhere else, made by people who chose to live on an island where the ferry schedule matters more than the mall hours.

Our village shops cover the basics and then some – everything from that obligatory vacation t-shirt to original paintings by artists who actually live here. You’ll find locally-made pottery, jewelry crafted on the island, and books for when the beach gets boring (it happens).

Need the practical stuff? We’ve got you there too. Fresh seafood, fishing tackle, propane exchanges, wine that’s better than you’d expect, and an ABC store for when the day calls for something stronger.

Most of our shops cluster around the village center, so you can knock out your browsing in an afternoon. The artists’ studios and galleries showcase work inspired by 16 miles of barrier island life – salt air, wild weather, and all the stories that come with living this far out.

You won’t leave empty-handed.
