The Real Deal: Ocracoke Seafood Company

Let’s be honest—most places that claim “fresh local seafood” are serving you something that was caught three states away and has been riding around in a truck for who knows how long. Not here. When we say fresh and local, we mean the fisherman who caught your dinner probably lives down the street and his boat is tied up right next to our dock.

Ocracoke Seafood Company is the only fish house on Ocracoke Island, and that’s not by accident. Back in 2006, when it was about to close forever, our local watermen did what islanders do best—they figured it out themselves. They banded together, saved this place, and kept 300 years of fishing tradition alive.

What you’ll find is whatever came off the boats that morning—shrimp, blue crabs, tuna, or sheepshead . All caught by watermen who call Ocracoke home, and we can probably tell you exactly which boat brought in what you’re buying. The shop sits right next to Silver Lake Harbor, so you can watch the boats come in while you decide. Fair warning: parking gets interesting during peak season, but that’s what happens when you’re the only game in town.

You will find more than just fish here — fresh house-made dips, fish cakes, soups, the best seafood breading, and all the fixings to make sushi at home! It’s the freshest seafood you’ll ever take home, prepared by folks who’ve been at it their whole lives. Open March through November… because even fish enjoy a little winter break.
