One of Ocracoke’s most popular destinations is the picturesque white lighthouse and keeper’s quarters. Built in 1823, this beacon is one of the oldest lighthouses still in active service in the US. The steady beam can be seen up to 14 miles out to sea and serves as the most recognized symbol of Ocracoke. The exterior of the Ocracoke Lighthouse is accessible year round. The lighthouse base, staffed by Park Service volunteers, is open for viewing during limited hours in the summer. Call 252-928-6711 for more information.
