Music & Festivals

For a village of fewer than 1,000 people, Ocracoke makes a joyful amount of noise.

Festival season kicks off every June with the Ocrafolk Festival, when musicians, storytellers, and artisans fill Silver Lake Harbor with three days of nonstop creativity. From folk and bluegrass to world music, the sounds drift from every corner of the village. Past performers have included the Clements Brothers, Molasses Creek, and our own Ocracoke Rockers. Proceeds from the festival don’t just fund the weekend—they also support arts programs for island children and help keep our community theater thriving.

In August, the Fig Festival sweetens summer with a celebration of Ocracoke’s most beloved fruit. Live music, square dancing, and the lively Fig Cake Bake-Off lead up to the grand finale: a community dance with the Ocracoke Rockers.

Music continues all year long at the Deepwater Theater, home to Ocracoke Alive. From touring musicians to local talent nights, the stage brings neighbors and visitors together under one roof.

Summer fireworks over Silver Lake Harbor mark Independence Day with a dazzling display, while October’s Pirate Jamboree fills the streets with sea shanties and period music during Blackbeard reenactments.

Don’t expect stadium shows or celebrity headliners. Instead, expect music the way it’s meant to be—played on porches, shared among friends, and carried across the harbor. On Ocracoke, music isn’t just entertainment. It’s tradition, community, and a way of life.
