Ocracoke’s Independence Day celebration is a multi-day island tradition filled with music, family fun, and hometown charm.
Festivities begin with fireworks on Thursday, July 2 at 9:15 pm, a pre-fireworks gathering: Ocracoke Island DJ Tommy Hutcherson will spin dance tunes and patriotic songs at the NPS docks. 7 pm. Fireworks by Pyrotecnico at the NPS parking lot, 9:15. On Friday, July 3, join in the fun at a lively square dance (admission $5 for adults).
Saturday, July 4:
Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at the NPS Lifeguard Beach. 9:30 am – Noon: Sign-up starts at 9 am. Open to all ages, individuals & groups.
Ocracoke Lighthouse base open 10 am to noon and 2 to 4 pm
Independence Day Parade 4 pm
Theme: The 250th anniversary of the United States. See flyer below for more information.
Awards presentation for Parade & Sculpture Contest winners; Books to be Red yard. 5:30 pm. No golf carts on the lawn. BYO seating.
Fundraising cookout at the United Methodist Church. 6 pm. Join the Community Beach Fire under the stars at the Ocracoke Day Use Area/NPS Lifeguard Beach. BYO beach blankets, chairs, marshmallows, and roasting sticks. 7 to 10 pm.
Please note: the NPS parking lot will be closed at 5 pm July 1 through July 2 for the fireworks on July 2.
